The cyber attack "could be worse"

The 'hackers' that made possible the chaos of last Friday, announced in a statement the disclosure of more security flaws that could give more problems

The cybercriminals that last Friday caused hundreds of companies around the world to see their security compromised, does not give the attack by finished. In an anonymous statement made public this Tuesday they say they have more dangerous pieces of software and that they will be for sale for anyone who wants to pay the price they ask for them. We will make public tools to bypass the security of web browsers, routers, smartphones, desktop operating systems and Windows 10, they say in the publication.

This is The Shadow Brokers, a mysterious group of 'hackers' who from one side believe they are surrounded by Russian intelligence and from the other the American. In an English full of spelling mistakes, they return to remember that their war is with The Equation Group, another group of 'hackers' not yet identified, although the international community relates them to the National Security Agency of the USA (NSA).

Although the first pieces of this 'software' will arrive in June, those that leaked in April used Windows faults to gain control of the device. The development and global security community has to activate the maximum alerts in case they make public what they promise.

The Shadow Brokers got the necessary information about the vulnerability that, shortly after, was used for WannaCry, the 'ransomware' that has infected more than 300,000 computers around the world, according to the latest reports. Now they go a step further and ensure that their intention is to uncover more vulnerabilities that affect not only computers, but also mobiles.

Although it is suspected that they were not the creators of the massive ransomware, they gave weapons so that the cyber attack could be carried out. The truth of their words is not known either and they do have that kind of accurate information, but they have shown that a global attack is possible that alerts the intelligence and security services of the great powers.

Other suspicious bands

Other research suggests that the origin of the cybernetic attack WannaCry could come from a cybercrime group called Lazarus from North Korea, as reported by the computer security company Securelist. In this sense, it seems that the code of this and other previous attacks of this organization have similarities.

This is not the only cyber-crime band identified by computer security experts. Symantec, another company of this type, identifies ten organizations around the world, including Lazarus herself (known by them as Appleworm).
