Ericsson expects one million new mobile Internet users per day until 2022

The mobile data traffic planned for 2022 will be the equivalent to that which would be generated if the entire Spanish population reproduced HD streaming video 24 hours a day for a month

The number of broadband subscriptions increased by more than 2,600 million between 2017 and 2022 , which involves adding about a million users on average each day for the next six years, as recorded by the latest edition of the report 'Mobility Report' of Ericsson

The Swedish company points out that this million new daily users is equivalent to the number of people needed to fill 20 times a football stadium during a European championship with a capacity of 50,000 spectators and it represents the same number of people who filled Times Square in New York to welcome the year 2017.

Likewise, the report prepared by Ericcson foresees a "rapid and continuous" growth of mobile connectivity globally, since the global mobile data traffic will multiply by eight between 2017 and 2022 .

In this way, the mobile data traffic foreseen for 2022 will be the equivalent to the one that would be generated if the entire Spanish population reproduced HD streaming video 24 hours a day for a month. In addition, it amounts to 31,000 million hours of uninterrupted viewing or that would generate a single subscriber if you watch HD videos in streaming for 3.5 million years.

The report also notes that 2016 saw the largest year-on-year global increase in mobile data since 2013 , due to the huge growth in India, and highlights "the underlying need" for mobile data.

In this regard, he emphasizes that the use of smartphones and the easy access to Internet services explain to a large extent these higher traffic figures. In fact, it highlights that a reflection of the importance that smartphones will have is by the end of 2022 the total mobile data traffic through smartphones will have multiplied by nine and will reach 66 exabytes per month.

The 4G

On the other hand, the report also points out that in 2018 the LTE (4G) will surpass the GSM in the technology of greater access by number of subscriptions and stresses that the speed at which this technology has been deployed and adopted "is unprecedented".

Specifically, it notes that the LTE has only taken five years to cover 2.5 billion people , compared to eight years of 3G, and that only in the first quarter of this year there have been 250 million new subscriptions to LTE.

Also, he points out that, given that the implementation of LTE is due to the demand for an improved user experience and faster networks, the deployment of 5G will also be determined by the need for greater mobile broadband capabilities, as well as solutions for efficiency and automation for the industry.

"I am particularly excited to see the industry's big steps in the progress towards the evolution of the networks, including the approval of the 5G New Radio (NR), a radio structure that allows early deployments of the 5G. this will allow more than 500 million 5G subscriptions and the total coverage for the population to reach 15% by 2022, "Niklas Heuveldop.
