Things you should not do on WhatsApp

Beware of sexting, scams, extortion or malware infection. The Office of Security of the Internet, OSI , has published an infographic showing the actions that should not be done in WhatsApp to avoid fraudulent practices or that may compromise the security of the user, advice that has been echoed by the Organization of Consumers and Users and that are developed in the infographic of the OSI:

1.
Confidential information
Even if you know the recipient of a message, do not send confidential information or you may be compromised. You can never know what the receiver will do with it. The same precaution must be taken with personal contacts and especially with groups, since sometimes we do not know all the members.

2.
The origin of the links
Beware of following the links we receive without noticing the site to which they point, that is, their origin. They can be a risk since the destination website can infect the device or steal our personal data if the page impersonates the identity of an organization with a phishing .

3.
False promotions or functionalities
False promotions of discount vouchers and a multitude of hoaxes and scams circulate on the Net. Its sole purpose is to collect personal information by deceiving users with a false promotion. The Office of Security of the Internaut also alerts of the extra functionalities that some users promote by WhatsApp or by the social networks, like for example the false video calls. Unlike the discount vouchers, the organization warns, these false updates usually seek people to subscribe to premium messaging services.

4.
Take care of privacy
To make safe use of WhatsApp (or any social network), it is essential to take care of privacy settings. In Settings / Privacy, you can select who can see personal information, such as profile picture or status. In Settings / Security, you must check that messages and calls are protected with end-to-end encryption, so neither WhatsApp nor third parties can read or listen to them.
